The East Coast Main Trunk (ECMT) runs from Hamilton, a city on New Zealand's North Island, to Kawerau, via Tauranga, a city facing the Pacific Ocean. Until 2001, the "Kaiwai Express" ran as a passenger train from Auckland to Tauranga via Hamilton, but it has now been discontinued and only freight trains are operated on the line.
The ECMT starts at Hamilton Station. The next station, Hamilton Central Station, is an abandoned station located underground in Hamilton's CBD, and its platform still remains.
Tainui Inland Port (Ruakura Inland Port) is a new logistics hub terminal that opened in 2023 and is a connection point from Auckland-Hamilton-Tauranga Port, adjacent to the ECMT and Waikato Expressway. The railway has two sidings there.
東海岸本線(以下 ECMT)は、ニュージーランド北島の都市ハミルトンから、太平洋に面する都市タウランガを経由してカウェラウまでの路線です。かつては2001年までオークランドからハミルトン経由でタウランガまで走る「カイワイ・エクスプレス」が旅客列車として走っていましたが現在では廃止されていて、貨物列車のみ運行される路線となっています。
ECMTはハミルトン駅が起点です。次のハミルトン中央駅はハミルトンのCBDの地下にある廃駅で、現在もホームの遺構が残っています。
タイヌイ インランドポート[(ルアクラ インランドポート)は2023年に開業した新しい物流ハブで、ECMTとワイカト高速道路に隣接する オークランド・ハミルトン・タウランガ港からの結節点です。鉄道には２本の側線が設けられています。
Branch lines branch off from Ruakura to Hautapu, from Morrisville to Waitoa, and from Waharoa to Kinleath.The Kinleith branch line continues to the pulp and paper mills.
The ECMT heads east from Waharoa and enters the 8.8km Kaimai Tunnel, which opened in 1978.

Tauranga is a coastal city, and the fifth most populous in New Zealand (population 161,800 in 2023). There is Port Tauranga, the largest export port in New Zealand.
Kawerau, the terminus of the ECMT, is a town rich in geothermal resources, with geothermal power plants and geothermal hot springs.
From Kawerau, the Murpara branch line continues to the forestry town of Murpara. This branch line was built to transport Murpara logs to the paper mill.
