In the northeastern part of Thailand, there is a line called the "Northeastern Railway". This line connects Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and Bangkok, the capital, approximately 660 km. The route from Vientiane to Rangsit is non-electrified.
In Vientiane, it departs from Khamsavath station. Kamsavath Railway Station is located about 5km east of the city. The Laos-China Railway extends from Kunming in China's Yunnan Province to Vientiane, but users should be careful as the distance between Kamsavath Station and Vientiane Station is not within walking distance to transfer trains.
The Vientiane Logistic Park has facilities for transshipping containers from the Laos-China Railway to the Northeastern Railway Line in Thailand. The Laos-China Railway uses 1,435mm gauge, and the Northeastern Railway Line uses 1,000mm gauge, so direct operation is not possible because the track widths are different.
The train enters Thailand by crossing the Mekong River via the Laos-Thailand Friendship Bridge, which is a road bridge.
タイ東北部には東北本線という路線があります。ラオスの首都ヴィエンチャンと、首都バンコクまでの約660kmを結ぶ路線です。ヴィエンチャンからランシットまでは非電化です。 ヴィエンチャンでは カムサワート駅を発着します。カムサワート駅は市街地から東に5km程の位置にあります。中国の雲南省の昆明からラオス・中国鉄道がヴィエンチャンまで延びていますが、カムサワート駅とヴィエンチャン駅の間は徒歩で乗り換えできる距離ではないので利用者は注意が必要です。 ヴィエンチャン ロジスティックパークでは ラオス・中国鉄道からタイの東北本線へコンテナを積み替える施設があります。ラオス・中国鉄道は1,435mmゲージ、東北本線は1,000mmゲージを使用していて線路の幅が異なるため直通運転ができません。 列車は道路併用橋であるラオス・タイ友好橋を通ってメコン川を渡ると、タイ国内に入ります。
Nong Khai is one of the cities in northeastern Thailand, bordering Laos. This area is famous for having been ruled by the former Kingdom of Ayutthaya in Thailand and the Kingdom of Laansang in Laos. Udon Thani used to be home to the Udon Thai Air Force Base. Currently, the Royal Thai Air Force base is attached to Udon Thani International Airport.

From Khon Kaen Station, the line becomes double track. Khon Kaen station is elevated. All passenger trains stop at this station.

The Nakhon Phanom branch line from Ban Phai Station to the border with Laos is currently under construction and is scheduled to open around 2027.
The Northeastern Railway Line branches at Bua Yai Junction Station into the main line via Thanon Chira and the Lam Narai branch line via Chatturat and Lam Narai. Some express trains run on the Lam Narai branch lines that avoid steep gradients. However, the route distance of the main line via Tanon Chira is approximately 30 km shorter than the bypass line.
バーンパイ駅からはラオスとの国境へのナコーンパノム支線が建設中で、2027年頃の開業予定となっています。
東北本線はブアヤイ ジャンクション駅でタノンチラ経由の本線とチャットゥラット・ラムナーラーイ経由のラムナライ支線に分岐します。一部の急行列車等は急こう配を避けたラムナライ支線を走ります。但し、タノンチラ経由の本線の方が路線距離は約30km程短くなっています。
The curves near Chatturat are gentle and trains can run at high speeds, but there are sharp curves near Khao Phang Hoei Tunnel, the only tunnel on this line, so trains run at reduced speeds.
チャットゥラット付近では曲線は緩やかで列車は高速で走行できますが、この路線の唯一のトンネルであるカオファンホーイトンネル付近では急なカーブがあり、列車は速度を落として運転します。
There is Pa Sak Jolasid Dam between Lam Narai station and Kaeng Khoi Junction station, and there are three places where the track crosses the dam lake due to the track being replaced due to dam construction.
ラムナーラーイ駅からケンコーイジャンクション駅までの間にはパーサック・チョンラシットダムがあり、ダム建設による線路の付け替えでダム湖を横切る箇所が３か所あります。
At Kaeng Khoi Junction Station, the Northeast Railway main lines from Ubon Ratchathani and Thanon Chira join from the east. There is a steeply sloped section on the east side of Kaeng Khoi Junction Station on the main line, and the station has a locomotive depot where auxiliary locomotives are connected. In addition, the bypass line that connects the Eastern Railway Line with Khlong Sip Kao branches off on the west side of this station. From Kaeng Khoi Junction Station to Bangkok, both the Northeastern Line and the Khlong Sip Kao Bypass Line are double-tracked.
Between Nong Bua Junction Station and Saraburi Station, an elevated Thai High Speed Rail using the Chinese method is currently under construction on the north side of this line.
ケンコーイジャンクション駅では東からウボンラーチャターニー、タノンチラからの本線が合流します。本線のケンコーイジャンクション駅から東側には急こう配区間があり、駅には機関区が設置されていて、補助機関車の連結が行われます。また、東本線のクローンシップカーオとを結ぶバイパス線がこの駅の西側で分岐します。ケンコーイジャンクションからバンコク方面へは、東北本線、クローンシップカーオバイパス線ともに複線になっています。 ノンブアジャンクション駅からサラブリー駅の間では、当路線の北側に、中国方式が採用されているタイ高速鉄道の高架が建設中です。
Norhtern Railway line connects at Ban Phachi Junction station.There are triple tracks between this station and Bangkok.
バーンパーチー・ジャンクションでは北本線が合流します。この駅からバンコク方面は３複線となります。
From Rangsit station to Bangkok, there are electric commuter trains.Passengers can access to Bangkok Don Mueang airport at Don Mueang station.
ランジット駅からバンコク方面へは通勤電車が走ります。ドンムアン駅ではバンコクドンムアン空港にアクセスすることができます。
There are 2 terminals, Bang Sue terminal and Hua Lamphone terminal in Bangkok city. In recent years, trains derpart from Bang Sue terminal is increased, but some trains still depart from Hua Lamphong terminal.
バンコクにはバンスー駅とフアランポーン駅の２つターミナルがあり、バンスー駅発着列車が増えていますが、一部の列車は古いフアランポーン駅を発着しています。
