Scotland has a number of railway lines that connect the capital, Edinburgh, and the most populous city, Glasgow, with the north. On this page, I will introduce a railway map from Aberdeen, a city in northeastern Scotland, to Edinburgh via Dundee.

スコットランドには首都のエディンバラと人口最大の都市グラスゴーを中心に、北部とを結ぶ多数の鉄道路線が存在します。このページでは、私はスコットランド北東部の都市アバディーンから　ダンディー経由　エディンバラまでの線路地図を紹介します。

Averdeen Craigievar Castle　アバディーン　クレイギーヴァー城

Aberdeen is a port city in the northeast with the third largest population in Scotland, and has recently become a base for oil exploration due to the discovery of North Sea oil fields. Trains depart from Aberdeen Station, including those that go to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, and those that connect Edinburgh and Glasgow via Dundee.

Passenger trains from three railway companies run on the Dundee-Aberdeen line: ScotRail, LNER (London North Eastern Railway) and Cross Country. The entire line is non-electrified, but the Scottish Government has ambitious plans to electrify it by 2035.

アバディーンは北東部にある、人口がスコットランドで第３位の港湾都市で、近年は北海油田の発見により石油採掘の拠点となっています。アバディーン駅からはハイランド地方の首都インヴァネスへ行く路線と、ダンディー経由でエディンバラ・グラスゴー方面を結ぶ路線の列車が発着します。

ダンディー-アバディーン線には、スコットレール、LNER(ロンドン・ノースイースタン鉄道)、クロスカントリーの３つの鉄道会社の旅客列車が走ります。全線が非電化ですが、2035年を目途に電化をする野心的な計画がスコットランド政府により立てられています。

The line sometimes heads south, overlooking the North Sea. The line from Montrose South to Usan is the only single-track section of the line, and although plans have often been raised to double-track the line, this has not yet been completed.

路線はときどき北海を臨みながら南下します。モントローズ南からウサンまではこの路線の唯一の単線区間となっていて、たびたび線路の複線化の計画が挙がりますが未だ複線化は完了していません。

Dundee Broughty Castle　ダンディー　ブローディ城

There is a section near Dundee with good alignment, and trains run at a maximum speed of 100mph (160km/h).

At Dundee, the trains go underground and reach Dundee Station. From Dundee, the Tay Coast Line for Perth and Glasgow branches off, and trains for Edinburgh go into the Edinburgh Dundee Line. When the train leaves Dundee, it crosses the Tay Bridge over the River Tay.

ダンディーでは地下に入りダンディー駅に至ります。ダンディーからはパース、グラスゴー方面のテイ海岸線が分岐し、エディンバラ方面の列車はエディンバラ・ダンディー線に入ります。列車はダンディーを出ると、テイ川のテイ・ブリッジを渡ります。

The train crosses the Firth of Forth via Forth Bridge and then enters Edinburgh. At Edinburgh Gateway Station passengers can change trams to Edinburgh Airport.

Once the Edinburgh-Glasgow Railway joins and crosses the Highmarket North Tunnel, trains arrive at Edinburgh Waverley station.

ScotRail's Inter7 City connects Aberdeen to Edinburgh, 92 miles (148 km) in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

列車はフォース・ブリッジを通ってフォース湾を超えると、エディンバラ市内に入ります。エディンバラ・ゲートウェイ駅では、エディンバラ空港行きのトラムに乗り換えることができます。

エディンバラ～グラスゴー鉄道が合流してハイマーケット北トンネルを超えると、列車はエディンバラ・・ウォーブレー駅に到着します。

スコット・レールのィンター７シティは、アバディーンからエジンバラまでの92mile(148km)を約２時間３０分で結びます。
