Seibu Railway is one of the Class 1 private railway companies(in Japanese, "Ohte Shitetsu"), with routes in Tokyo and western Saitama Prefecture. Seibu Railway has two main lines: the Shinjuku Line and the Ikebukuro Line. This page covers the Ikebukuro Line.
To be precise, the Seibu Ikebukuro Line is a line that connects Ikebukuro Station, a terminal station in the northwestern part of downtown Tokyo, to Agano Station in Saitama Prefecture. It is operated integrally with the Seibu Chichibu Line from Agano Station to Seibu Chichibu Station, and in addition to general commuter trains, a limited express train using a train called "Laview'' is operated between Ikebukuro and Seibu Chichibu. The maximum speed on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line is 105km/h.

The Seibu Toshima Line is a short 1.0km line that connects Nerima to Toshimaen, with local trains mainly operating between Seibu Ikebukuro Station and Toshimaen Station. Seibu Railway used to operate an amusement park called Toshimaen, but it has since closed and now there is a theme park called "Studio Tour Tokyo" that deals with the Harry Potter series.

正確には、西武池袋線は東京都心の北西部のターミナル駅である池袋駅から埼玉県の吾野駅までを結ぶ路線です。吾野駅から西武秩父駅までの西武秩父線とは一体的に運営されていて、一般的な通勤電車の他に池袋から西武秩父までの区間で「ラビュー」という電車を使用した特急列車が運行されています。西武池袋線の最高速度は時速105km/hです。
池袋駅は新宿駅、渋谷駅に次いで世界で３番目に多い乗降客数を誇る駅で、西武池袋線の他にJR山手線、JR湘南新宿ライン、JR埼京線、東武東上線と、東京メトロの路線が乗り入れます。池袋は主に東京都と埼玉県の西部を結ぶ鉄道路線のターミナル駅で、駅前は繁華街になっているほか、サブカルチャーの発信地としても知られています。
西武鉄道の池袋駅はホーム４面、線路４線を有する行き止まり式の駅です。このうち一番左側の１線は特急列車「ラビュー」専用の発着ホームとして使用されています。西武鉄道の池袋駅の線路の上には「ダイヤゲート」と呼ばれるオフィスビルがあり、西武鉄道の持ち株会社である西武ホールディングスの本社等が入居しています。建物の外観は鉄道の運行図表の「ダイヤグラム」をモチーフにしたユニークなデザインで迫力があります。
池袋から５つ目の練馬駅は東京メトロからの直通電車が合流し、豊島園へ向かう西武豊島線が分岐するジャンクション駅です。西武池袋線には小竹向原から練馬までの路線である西武有楽町線を経由して東京メトロ有楽町線と副都心線の２つの路線からも電車が乗り入れます。東京メトロ副都心線経由で、西武池袋線沿線から渋谷、横浜、元町中華街(チャイナタウン)まで直通する電車も多数運行されています。
西武豊島線は練馬から豊島園までを結ぶ1.0kmの短い路線で、主に西武池袋駅と豊島園駅の間で各駅停車が運行されています。西武鉄道は豊島園という遊園地を運営していましたが閉園し、現在はスタジオツアー東京というハリーポッターシリーズなどを扱うテーマパークがあります。

Seibu Dome, the home of the professional baseball team Seibu Lions, is located near Seibu-Kyujo-mae Station. There used to be many professional baseball teams affiliated with railway companies, but now Seibu Railway(Seibu Lions) and Hanshin Railway in Osaka (Hanshin Tigers) operate this kind of teams.
Seibu Kyujo-mae Station is equipped with 6 tracks on 3 platforms, and on baseball game days such as night games, trains are kept at the station during the game. Trains are scheduled to depart for Ikebukuro terminaol one after another in time for the end of the match.
練馬駅から石神井公園駅までは複々線になっていて、特急や急行電車などは外側の線路を走行し、各駅停車は内側の線路を走行します。石神井公園駅では急行電車と各駅停車が相互に接続することが多く、利用者にとってとても便利です。
石神井公園から先飯能までは複線区間です。所沢は西武鉄道の企業城下町で、西武鉄道の本社があります。所沢駅では西武鉄道のもう１つの主要路線である西武新宿線に乗り換えをすることができます。所沢駅には特急列車も停車します。
所沢の１つ先の西所沢駅からは、西武狭山線が分岐します。西武狭山線は西所沢と西武球場前を結ぶ路線で、西武球場前駅付近にはプロ野球球団の西武ライオンズの本拠地である西武ドームがあります。鉄道会社系のプロ野球球団はかつては多く存在しましたが、現在では西武と大阪の阪神が球団を運営しています。
西武球場前駅はホーム３面線路６線の設備があり、ナイターなど野球の試合日には試合中は電車を駅に待機させ、試合終了の時間帯に合わせて池袋方面への電車を続々と出発させる運用が行われています。

飯能駅は行き止まり式の駅で、池袋や都心方面からの８両や１０両編成の電車のほとんどがこの駅で折り返します。線路の配置は極力駅に入線する電車と出発する電車が相互に支障する回数が極力減らせるように工夫されています。飯能駅から先西武秩父方面へは山岳区間に入り、４両編成の短い電車が日中は３０分毎に運転されます。特急列車は飯能駅で進行方向が変わります。
飯能は西武池袋線沿線における東京のベッドタウンの一番西側に位置する都市で、秩父山地への玄関口となっています。飯能駅では飯能市内にあるムーミンの世界を体験できるテーマパーク「メッツァ」に因み、近年木目調のフィンランド風のデザインに駅の内装がリニューアルされました。

西武秩父線のトンネルの連続する区間を抜けると、列車は芝桜で有名な横瀬に到着します。横瀬駅ではかつては池袋から秩父鉄道線直通の電車が長瀞行きと三峰口行きの電車に分割、併合する作業が頻繁に行われていましたが、現在では寂しいことに秩父鉄道への直通電車は土日のみ下り２本の長瀞行きと下り１本の三峰口行きのみとなっています。
西武秩父駅は西武秩父線の終点の駅です。秩父は東京から２時間以内で行くことのできる魅力的な観光地のうちの一つで、日本酒、登山ハイキング、長瀞の川下り、パワースポットの三峰神社、秩父の冬の氷柱、大滝温泉など魅力が多くあります。
