ワイラパパ線はニュージーランドの首都ウェリントンから東海岸経由でウッドビルまでの171.5kmの路線です。ウッドビル駅ではパーマストンノース・ギズボーン線と接続し、線路はネイピア方面に伸びています。
ウッドビル駅はパーマストンノース方面、ネイピア方面、ワイラパパ線ウェリントン方面から列車を折り返すことなく通過できる特殊な構造になっています。ウッドビル駅からマスタートン駅までは基本的に旅客列車は走らず、パーマストンノースからウッドビル経由でパフィアトゥアまでの貨物列車が運行されています。
A medium-distance train called the Wairarapa Connection runs from Masterton to Wellington. Currently, it is operated by passenger trains pulled by locomotives, but there are plans to introduce dual-mode electric and diesel 4-car trains in the future.
On the section from Masterton to Upper Hutt, the train passes through the Rimutaka Tunnel, which opened in 1955 and is New Zealand's second longest tunnel with a total length of 8,798m. The longest tunnel in New Zealand is the Kaimai Tunnel between Hamilton and Tauranga on the East Coast Main Trunk.
The section from Upper Hutt Station to Wellington Station is a double track section electrified with DC 1500V, and a train called the Hutt Valley Line also runs there.
マスタートンからウェリントンまでは、「ワイララパ・コネクション」という中距離列車が走ります。現在は機関車が牽引する客車列車で運行されていますが、将来電気とディーゼルのデュアルモードの4両編成の列車を導入する予定です。
マスタートンからアッパーハットまでの区間ではリムタカトンネルという1955年に開通した、全長8,798mのニュージーランドで２番目の長さのトンネルを列車は通過します。なお、ニュージーランドで１番長いトンネルは東海岸線のハミルトン～タウランガ間のカイマイトンネルです。
アッパーハット駅からウェリントン駅までの区間は直流1500vで電化されている複線区間で、ハットヴァレー線という名前の電車も走ります。
From Wellington station, there are 4 rail lines. Kapiti line(for Waikanae), Hutt Valey line(for Upper Hutt), Johnsonville line(Old route for Auckland), and Melling line.
The Melling line joins at Petone station. The Melling line is part of the old route before it was replaced by the Wairarapa line, and now EMU passenger trains run between Melling and Wellington.
When it joins the North Island main line at Kaiwarawara, the rail route becomes a quadruple track section, and the train reaches its final stop, Wellington Station.
ニュージーランドの首都 ウェリントン駅からは４つの路線が発着しています。カピティ線(オークランド方面) ハットバレー線 ジョンソンビル線(オークランド方面の昔のルート) メリング線の４つです。
ペトネ駅ではメリング線が合流します。メリング線はワイララパ線の付け替え前の古いルートの一部で、現在はメリングとウェリントンとを結ぶ電車が運行されています。
カイワラワラで北島幹線と合流すると複々線区間になり、列車は終点のウェリントン駅に至ります。
