The Limache-Puerto Railway Line (Merval) is a passenger rail line that runs through the greater Valparaíso metropolitan area, connecting Valparaíso's Puerto Station and Limache Station over a distance of 43 km. It is electrified with 3000V DC and has double tracks.

The Greater Valparaíso Metropolitan Area is located approximately 150 km northwest of Chile's capital Santiago, facing the Pacific Ocean, and has a population of over 900 thousand, centered on the five cities of Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Quilpue, Villa Alemana, and Concon.  This is the third most populous region in Chile.

Puerto Station is the terminal station in Valparaiso. Trains run every 10-15 minutes on weekdays, every 12 minutes on Saturdays, and every 15 minutes on holidays. Freight trains departing from the port of Valparaíso also run on this line.

The train runs through Valparaiso facing the Pacific Ocean in the section from Puerto Station to Recreo Station, but enters a tunnel in Vina del Mar. Vina del Mar is the most populous municipality in the greater Valparaiso metropolitan area and has a twin city relationship with Valparaiso. There are four underground stations in the city.

　リマチェ・プエルト鉄道線(Merval)は大バルパライソ都市圏を走行する旅客鉄道路線で、バルパライソのプエルト駅とリマチェ駅までの43kmを結びます。直流3000Vで電化されていて、線路は複線になっています。
　大バルパライソ都市圏はチリの首都サンティアゴから北西に約150kmの場所に位置する太平洋に面しており、バルパライソ、ビニャデルマル、キルプエ、ビジャ・アレマナ、コンコンという5つの都市を中心に人口90万人以上を有しています。この地域はチリで３番目に人口の多い地域となっています。
　プエルト駅はバルパライソにおけるターミナル駅です。電車は平日は10～15分間隔で、土曜日は12分間隔で、休日は15分間隔で運行されています。この路線ではバルパライソの港を出発する貨物列車も走行します。
　列車はプエルト駅からレクレオ駅までの区間ではバルパライソ市内の太平洋に面した場所を走行しますが、ビニャデルマル市内ではトンネルに入ります。ビニャデルマル市は大バルパライソ都市圏で最も人口の多い自治体で、バルパライソとは双子都市の関係性があります。市内には４つの地下駅が存在します。

After passing through the tunnel, the train reaches El Salto Station, which is a station in Vina del Mar city. Once the train departs from El Salto Station, it enters a mountainous area. The train enters Quilpue city after passing through sharp curves, a railway bridge, and a tunnel.

　トンネルを抜けた先のエル・サルト駅までがビニャデルマル市内の駅で、列車はエル・サルト駅を出発すると山岳地帯に入ります。急なカーブと鉄橋、トンネルを超えて列車はキルプエ市内に入ります。キルプエはその穏やかな気候から「太陽の街」とも呼ばれ、製造業が盛んな都市です。

From Las Americas station the train enters the city of Villa Alemana. Villa Alemana is a city of approximately 110,000 people located in the northeastern part of Greater Valparaiso Metropolitan Area, and is a commuter town in Valparaiso, famous for its 80 windmills, which are registered as cultural heritage sites. 

"Villa Alemana" means "German town" in Spanish, and it has a history that was originally founded by immigrants from Germany and Italy. The first vote of residents decided on the name "Villa Alemana'' instead of "Villa Italiana''.

As of 2024, Limache Station is the last stop for passenger trains in Greater Valparaíso Metropolitan Area. The train travels approximately 43km from Puerto Station to Limache Station in about one hour. Limache is famous for its agricultural industry, mainly tomato cultivation, and its candy manufacturing company called Merello.

　ラス・アメリカ駅からは列車はビジャ・アレマーナ市に入ります。ビジャ・アレマーナは大バラパライソ都市圏の北東部に位置する人口約11万人の都市で、文化遺産に登録された80基ある風車が有名なバルパライソのベッドタウンです。
　「ビジャ・アレマーナ」とはスペイン語でドイツ人の街という意味で、もともとドイツとイタリアからの移民により設立されました歴史があり、最初の住民の投票によって「ビジャ・イタリアーナ」ではなく「ビジャ・アレマーナ」になったという経緯があります。
　2024年現在、大バルパライソ都市圏の旅客列車の終点はリマチェ駅となっています。列車はプエルト駅からリマチェ駅までの約43kmを約１時間で走行します。リマチェはトマト栽培を中心とした農業と、キャンディの製造を行うメレロという会社が有名です。

In the future, the Limache-Puerto railway line is planned to be extended from Limache station to La Calera station via San Pedro.

 　リマチェ・プエルト鉄道線は将来リマチェ駅からサン・ペドロを経由してラ・カレラ駅まで延伸される計画があります。
