The Nam Tok Line is a railway line that runs from Bangkok to the western part of Thailand, and was once connected to a railway line in Myanmar. This line was built during World War II under the orders of the former Japanese Army, and many Allied forces (mainly British) POWs and forced laborers from Southeast Asia were engaged in the construction of this line, resulting in many casualties. For this reason, it is known in English-speaking countries as the "Death Railway."
After that, Britain won World War II, and the rail tracks were removed by former Japanese prisoners of war, and the line was temporarily suspended in 1947. In 1958, the section up to Nam Tok was reopened and continues to this day.
