The Amtrak "Downeaster" is an intercity train that connects Brunswick, Maine, via Portland, and Boston, a large city in Massachusetts. Unlike other Amtrak trains, this train operates with a cab locomotive or control car connected to the front and back. There are plans in the future to extend this train from Brunswick to Rockland.

Portland is the largest city in Maine. The city's Portland Station is currently located on a branch line, forcing trains to back up as they enter the station. There are plans to move Portland Station onto the main line in the future.

Old Orchard Beach Station, which follows Portland Station, is open only during the summer from May to October.

El Amtrak "Downeaster" es un tren interurbano que conecta Brunswick, Maine, a través de Portland, y Boston, una gran ciudad de Massachusetts. A diferencia de otros trenes de Amtrak, este tren opera con una locomotora de cabina o un vagón de control conectado en la parte delantera y trasera. En el futuro hay planes para ampliar este tren de Brunswick a Rockland.

From Maine, the Downeaster enters New Hampshire and then Massachusetts. The track becomes double track from Plaistow, just before the Massachusetts border. Haverhill Station is the starting station for the MBTA's Haverhill Line, Massachusetts' commuter rail line, but due to construction, trains will depart from neighboring Bradford Station until mid-2025.

The Downeaster and the MBTA Haverhill Line share the same track from Haverhill Station to Wilmington Junction, but beyond this junction Amtrak takes the west route and the MBTA Haverhill Line takes the east route. From Wilmington Station, Amtrak shares tracks with the MBTA Lowell Line.

Desde Maine, el Downeaster ingresa a New Hampshire y luego a Massachusetts. La vía se convierte en vía doble desde Plaistow, justo antes de la frontera con Massachusetts. The "Downeaster" train starts and ends at Boston North Station. This station is one of Boston's two major terminal stations, along with Boston South Station on the Northeast Corridor, and the two stations are located in different locations. There was once a plan to connect Boston North Station and South Station, but the plan was abandoned due to cost and other reasons.

The train travels 145 miles (233 km) from Brunswick Station to Boston North Station, with a maximum speed of 79 mph (127 km/h) and a nominal speed of 44 mph (71 km/h), taking 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The MBTA Subway Orange Line runs between Boston North Station and Boston Back Bay Station in the Northeast Corridor.

El tren "Downeaster" comienza y termina en la estación Boston North. Esta estación es una de las dos principales estaciones terminales de Boston, junto con la Estación Sur de Boston en el Corredor Noreste, y las dos estaciones están ubicadas en diferentes ubicaciones.
