"Tren Interoceánico(The Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec)" is a transcontinental railroad line in Mexico. The Z line of this railway connects Coatzacoalcos, a city on the Atlantic Ocean, and Salina Cruz, a city on the Pacific Ocean. Due to the instability of the Panama Canal and the rising tolls, the Mexican government carried out the restoration of this dilapidated line as an alternative freight route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and it reopened in 2023.
In addition to freight trains, the line also operates two round trip passenger services per week using either used British HST diesel railcars or used Amtrak Amfleet passenger cars hauled by EMD locomotives, former Union Pacific Railroad in the US and GO Transit in Canada.
UU. y GO Transit en Canadá.
On this rebuilt line, passenger trains run at a maximum speed of 115km/h and freight trains at a maximum speed of 70km/h. However, as the railway line is in the mountains and has many curves, trains rarely reach their maximum speed.
