The Southern Railway is a rail line with a total length of approximately 1,140 km that connects Thon Buri Station in Bangkok and Sungai Korok Station in the south. Trains depart from 3 stations in Bangkok, Hua Lamphong Station, Krung Thep Aphiwat Station, and Thon Buri Station.
The area between Krung Thep Aphiwat Station and Taling Chan Station is electrified with AC 25kV, and a commuter train called the "Light Red Line" runs there. In the future, the "Light Red Line" will be extended from Taling Chan to Salaya Station.
南本線はバンコク・トンブリー駅と南部のスンガイコーロック駅を結ぶ全長約1,140kmの鉄道路線です。バンコクではフアランポーン駅、クルンテープ・アピワット駅、トンブリ駅を発着する列車があります。 クルンテープ・アピワット駅からタリンチャン駅までの間は交流25kvで電化されていて、ライトレッド線という通勤電車が走ります。将来ライトレッド線はタリンチャンからサラヤー駅まで延伸する予定です。
The original Southern Railway trains departed from Bangkok Noi Station (formerly Thon Buri Station), but was moved to the current Thonburi Station in 2003 due to a redevelopment plan for the area around the former Thon Buri Station. The Japanese-made steam locomotive "Mikado'' is preserved at the former Thonburi Station. "Mikado" means emperor in Japanese.
もともとの南本線の路線はバンコク・ノイ駅(旧トンブリー駅)を発着していましたが、旧トンブリー駅周辺の再開発計画により2003年に今のトンブリー駅に移転しました。旧トンブリー駅には日本製の蒸気機関車 「みかど」が保存されています。「みかど」とは、日本語で皇帝を意味します。
At Nong Pladuk Junction, the Suphanburi Line heading north to Suphanburi and the Nam Tok Line heading west, known as the Thailand-Burma Railway, split. The Nam Tok Line once extended all the way to Myanmar. This line was built by the Japanese military during World War II, and is also known as the "Death Railway'' because of the large number of casualties suffered by Allied prisoners of war and local workers during its construction.
ノン・ブラドゥックジャンクションでは、そこから北のスパンブリーへ向かうスパンブリー線と、泰緬鉄道として知られる西へ向かうナムトック線が分岐します。ナムトック線はかつてミャンマーまで鉄道が伸びていました。この路線は第２次世界大戦中に日本軍により建設され、連合国の捕虜や地元の労働者が建設にあたり多数犠牲者を出したことから「Death Railway」とも呼ばれています。
The Southern Railway is undergoing double-tracking, and is currently double-tracked all the way to Chumphon. Currently, sidings are being constructed at Ban Pong Station and Photharam Station for local trains and freight trains to wait for express trains to pass. In addition, construction work is being carried out to make Nong Pla Lai Station into triple tracks.
南本線は線路の複線化が進んでいて、現在はチュムポーンまで複線化されています。バンポン駅とポタラム駅では現在 普通列車や貨物列車が急行列車の通過待ちをするための側線の建設がされています。また、ノンパーライ駅では３線化工事が行われています。
Hua Hin Station was elevated and became a modern station in December 2023. Hua Hin is a resort area with many beaches and hotels.
フアヒン駅は2023年12月に高架化され、近代的な駅になりました。フアヒンはリゾート地で、海水浴場やホテルが多数あります。
Kui Buri is famous for Kui Buri National Park, which is home to wild Asian elephants. This area is close to the coastline of the Gulf of Thailand and the border with Myanmar.
クイブリは、野生のアジアゾウが生息するクイブリ国立公園が有名です。この地域はタイランド湾の海岸線とミャンマーとの国境が近くなっています。
Double-track section of the Southern Railway ends at Chumphon, and from there south it becomes single-track. There is also a plan to double track the line up to Padang Pusar on the border with Malaysia. This railway line continues to Malaysia and Singapore.
南本線の複線区間はチュムポーンまでで、ここから南は単線になります。なお、マレーシアとの国境のパダン・プサールまで複線化する計画があります。線路はマレーシア、シンガポールへと続きます。
