There are two large cities in the northwestern United States: Seattle and Portland, OR. Amtrak's "Cascades" express train runs between Portland(OR), Seattle, and Vancouver(BC), Canada. I show the maps the approximately 187miles (300km) distance from Seattle to Portland on this page.

This is the timetable from Seattle to Portland, OR. In addition to the "Cascades" trains, this section also runs the long-distance train "Coast Starlight", which connects Seattle and Los Angeles via Portland(OR) and the "Sounder" commuter train, which connects Seattle to Lakewood via Tacoma. The "Cascades" runs six round trips between Seattle and Portland(OR), including one round trip to Vancouver(BC), Canada, and two round trips to Eugene in central Oregon. The travel time between Seattle and Portland is approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes on the ”Cascades”trains and approximately 4 hours on the "Coast Starlight".

In Seattle, these trains depart from King Street Station. This station is located at the southern end of Seattle's CBD, and is Seattle's transportation hub, with access to LRT and streetcars. The long-distance train "Empire Builder'' from Chicago via St. Paul and Spokane also departs from this station(The "Empire Builder" train is separated at Spokane station and divided into one bound for Seattle and one bound for Portland (OR)).
Lumen Field, home of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and MLS's Seattle Thunders, and T-Mobile Park, home of MLB's Seattle Mariners, are also within walking distance from this station.
The train runs from here to Vancouver, Oregon on the BNSF Railway's Seattle subdivision. In the western United States, with some exceptions, most sections are owned by BNSF Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad, two major freight railroad companies, and passenger railroad companies primarily rely on these two railroads for track use. They pay a fee and use the railway tracks.
There are triple tracks from Seattle King Street Station to just before Kent Station. Seattle has a large freight yard connected to the port of Seattle.

There is an airport called Boeing Field on the west side of Seattle's freight yard, and the Renton factory within this airport is where the final assembly of Boeing's 737 aircraft(Boeing is the major American aircraft manufacturer), is carried out.

Entering Tacoma, passenger trains run on BNSF Railway's Point Defiance Bypass from Clear Creek to Nisqually. This bypass is the only single-track section of the route of the "Cascades" trains between Seattle and Portland (OR). The "Cascades" trains used to run on BNSF's Seattle Subdivision within Tacoma, but it was rerouted to this route for faster speeds and shortcuts. However, on December 18, 2017, the first day of the route change, a tragic derailment occurred on this route due to excessive speed on a curve.
The Sounder Commuter Railroad terminates at Lake Wood Station, just two stops from Tacoma Dome Station.
タコマ市内に入り、旅客列車はクリアクリークからニスカリーまでの区間はBNSF鉄道のポイント・ディファイアンス・バイパスを走ります。なお、このバイパスは「カスケーズ」のシアトル～ポートランド(OR)間で唯一の単線区間となっています。かつては「カスケーズ」号はタコマ市内でもBNSFのシアトル・サブディビジョンを走っていましたが、高速化とショートカットのためこちらの路線へルートの変更がされました。但し、ルート変更がされた初日の2017年12月18日に、このルート上においてカーブにおける速度超過を原因とする悲劇的な脱線事故が発生してしまいました。
サウンダー通勤鉄道は、タコマ・ドーム駅から２つ目のレイク・ウッド駅が終点となります。

In Vancouver, WA, the "Empire Builder" route from Spokane to Portland, OR joins. Trains enter BNSF Railway's Fallbridge subdivision and pass two swing bridges on the Columbia River.

The trains cross the Willamette River and pass the freight terminal, and then arrive at Portland (OR) Union Station. This station is located in downtown Portland(OR) and is a transportation hub with LRT and streetcar service, similar to Seattle's King Street Station.
Portland (OR) is the second most populous city in the northwest United States after Seattle, and is known for its DIY culture and craft beer brewing. Although the Port of Portland is 80 miles (130 km) from the river's mouth, it has a huge dock and is the largest exporter of wheat in the United States.

The station building at Portland Union Station was built in 1896 and is still preserved today. It features a Romanesque revival clock tower.
ポートランドユニオン駅の駅舎は1896年に完成したもので、現在も保存されています。ロマネスク様式のリバイバル時計塔が特徴的です。
